Artist’s Statement:
Rose graduated cum laude with a BFA in Communication Arts and Design from VCU in 2006. Currently, she is the Creative Director at a nonprofit association in the Washington, D.C., metro area. She fills her time with personal work in both acrylic and watercolor. She exhibited her paintings at the Target Gallery in the Torpedo Factory Art Center, the Arlington Arts Gallery, Artomatic, Raw: DC’s Menagerie, and other local shows. Previously, her work was in the Conversations in the Contemporary exhibit at the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum, where it will be kept in the permanent collection. She shared her love of art as a mentor and art teacher for Space of Her Own in Old Town Alexandria for the 2010-11 school year. You can donate or help here http://spaceofherown.org/
Rose’s work is influenced by tattoo culture and street art. Her new brow paintings have a stylized, illustrative quality and include imagery of pin-ups, roses, skulls, and animals. Her paintings reflect her interest in the concept of Memento Mori and the Dia de los Meurtos. Everyone must die, therefore we live each day with meaning and celebrate the lives of those who have passed away.
